Alameda County Expects State to Extend Regional Stay At Home Order
Alameda County released a statement on Thursday noting that the State’s Regional Stay at Home Order will remain in effect until lifted by the state. Alameda County is part of the Bay Area Region and ICU bed capacity has steadily declined over the past several weeks. The current 3.5% ICU bed capacity is a strong indication that the state will extend the order past the three-week minimum time period. The State is expected to provide an update on Saturday, January 9. For the order to be lifted, the State’s projections must show that our region is expected to meet or exceed 15% ICU capacity in the next four weeks. Alameda County cannot communicate next steps until the State formally announces our region’s status.

Meanwhile, we are experiencing the biggest surge of COVID-19 cases since the beginning of the pandemic. Please stay home. Wear a mask if you must leave for essential activities.

Oakland Restaurant Week
To celebrate the businesses and people that have been nourishing Oakland’s communities, Oakland Restaurant Week is upgrading to Oakland Restaurant (and More) Week—to promote all the businesses who contribute to Oakland’s culinary fabric. In addition to restaurants, be sure to show some love to Oakland’s breweries, wineries, food trucks, cafes, pop-ups, dessert spots, caterers, and more!

Here’s to the start of a great 2021. Oakland, let’s eat!

Applications for the 2021 Oakland Youth Poet Laureate
The Oakland Youth Poet Laureate program is a citywide effort to celebrate literacy through poetry and connect young writers to far-reaching opportunities. Each year we accept applications from talented Oakland writers (ages 13-18) to join a community of young poets. The Laureate earns an educational scholarship, and all the Finalists are invited to serve as ambassadors, with ongoing opportunities for performances, projects, and peer support.

Applications for the 2021 Oakland Youth Poet Laureate are open until February 1st, 2021.
